Part 1

Jack在一间小酒吧中和一个叫Nick的问题少年谈话，这个问题少年刚刚作奸犯科，却因为未满18岁而免于入牢，二人对视而坐，中间的桌子上摆着一摞积木，Jack让Nick从这一摞积木中抽出一块，而保持积木不倒，Nick随意的抽了一块，整摞积木随之倒下。Jack开始了苦口婆心的引导，面对Jack，Nick一脸的不屑一顾，对于Jack随信奉的基督教义，更是不以为然。

Jack: Think which one you’re gonna to pull out?

Nick: I always think, man.

Jack: No, you don’t. They didn’t lock you up this time, because you are not 18 yet. Next time, they will lock you up, brother. Come on. Well, you are not thinking Stealing might get you money. You can tap some cheerleader’s ass. You can show off riding in some pickle-colored Thunderbird.(1)But tell you what’s gonna happen if you shoot some pregnant woman or an old man, huh? You know what’ll happen? The guilt will suck you down to the bone.(2) Stealing ain’t worth it.(3) Going to the church, reading the Bible and believing in Jesus. Brother, that’s your ticket.(4) Yeah, you think, it’s a fantasy, right? Come here, man, get up, come here. See that truck. Beauty, isn’t it? I won it at a friend’s raffle. （5）

Nick: No shit.

Jack: No, shit. You know what? It wasn’t luck. It was Jesus who wanted me to have that truck.

Nick: That’s bullshit. I bet you stole it.

Jack: Jesus gave that to me. And as he who gives and he who takes away.

Nick: Yeah, right. He doesn’t give a shit about us. (6)

Jack: Come back. Come back. Take off that hat. God even knows when a single hair moves on your head. (7)You’re wrong. Nick.

Part 2

Paul躺在医院的病床上，身上插满了各种各样的管子和针头，呼吸机在一旁规律的工作着。感觉到生命的即将逝去，Paul绝望的环顾四周，大脑一片空白，不知道在这个充满死亡气息的空间里，到底谁会第一个离世？

Paul: So this is the death waiting room. These ridiculous tubes. These needles swelling my arms. What am I doing in this pre-corpse club(8)? What do I have to do with them?(9) I don’t know when everything began anymore, or when it’s gonna end. Who will be the first to lose his life? He, in a coma?(10) Or me?

Part 3

Jack由于驾车撞人后逃逸而入狱等候审判，在监狱中，Jack不吃不喝，开始对自己的信仰产生了极端的怀疑。曾经帮他改过自新的牧师到监狱里来看望他，而此时的Jack已然失去了往日的虔诚，面对着牧师，他眼里和脸上只有深深的愤怒。

Priest: Well, thanks for finally seeing me. They tell me you don’t want to eat

Jack: I am not hungry.

Priest: Jack, Jesus didn’t come to free us from the pain. He came to give us the strength to bear it.

Jack: Maybe he wanted this pain for me.

Priest: No, he had nothing to do with this. It’s an accident.

Jack: No, it wasn’t an accident. Jesus chose me for this.

Priest: Jack, ask for the mercy of Jesus Christ.

Jack: If it was an accident, why do have to ask for His mercy? I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy. Iｗill have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

Priest: Don’t be prideful. That’s a sin.

Jack: And the fearful and unbelieving, and the abominable, the murderers, the warmongers….

Priest: Jack, listen to me.

Jack: the sorcerers and idolaters, and all lairs, shall have their part….

Priest: Jesus came to save us, not damn us.

Jack: in the lake which burn-neth with fire an brimstone. Revelation 21.8

Priest: Jesus loves you. But he also knows how to punish arrogant sinner like you.

Jack: “As many as I love, I rebuke and chaste.” Revelation 3.19. Jesus betrayed me.

Priest: Stop this shit, or you’re going straight to hell.

Jack: Hell？This is hell. Right hell!

Priest: You’re damning your souls. You shut up now and ask for Christ to forgive you.

Jack: Hey, forgive me! I did everything he asked me to do. I changed! I gave him my life and he betrayed me. He put that fucking truck in my hand so I could carry out his will.(13) Made me kill that man and those girls. But hey, He didn’t give me the strength to stay and save them.

Priest: Don’t blaspheme. You bastard! Christ had nothing to do with this！

Jack: God even knows when a single hair moves on your head.(15 And you taught me that.

Priest: We are gonna pray for you, Jack.

Part 4

影片最后，镜头回到了Paul的病房中，Paul继续着他的思考，在这段思考中，Paul引出了全片的主题，人死去的时候，身体所失去的21克，就是灵魂的重量，在这21克里，却又深藏着多少重量？有多少失去？有多少获得？影片中三位主角在事故前后的生活片断再度上演，在考问灵魂之后，我们的生命又获得了多少？

Paul: How many lives do we live? How many times do we die? They say we lose 21 grams at the exact moment of our death. Everyone. And how much fits into 21 grams? How much is lost? When do we lose 21 grams? How much goes with them? How much is gained? How much is gained? Twenty-one grams. The weight of a stack of five nickels. The weight of a hummingbird. A chocolate bar. How much did 21 grams weigh?

语言点分析

1． You can show off riding in some pickle-colored Thunderbird.你可以骑着酱色的雷鸟车四处炫耀。Show off doing something 做某事来炫耀。She always shows off wearing some loud clothes. 她总是穿一些夸张的服饰四处炫耀。 Thunderbird就是“雷鸟”，我们常常可以在电影中看到一些嬉皮士穿着皮衣，骑着雷鸟在马路上飞驰，留一路轰油声。

2． The guilt will suck you down to the bone.负罪感会让你深陷不能自拔。Suck这个词的用法很广，除了在这里表示的“吸”，有时候我们还会听到有人评论一些东西，会说，That sucks.意思是说，这太烂了, this is stupid and horrible.

3． Stealing ain’t worth it.偷窃根本不值得去做。Ain’t其实是 isn’t. 在美国南方还能听到这样的表达法，但并不推荐大家使用。如果觉得某事很值得做，我们就可以说，It’s totally worth it.

4． That’s your only ticket. 这才是你的出路。

5． raffle.抽彩售货, Jack这辆卡车是抽奖所得，他一直认为这是上帝对自己的褒奖，却没有想到这辆车会是他撞死三个人的工具。

6． He doesn’t a shit about us. 这是一句粗话，意思是上帝才懒得管我们。有的时候，我们在电影中会听到这样的表达，I don’t give a shit. 或者是 I don’t give a damn.都是很无理的说 I don’t care.

7． God even knows when a single hair moves on your head.上帝甚至知道你头上每根头发的动静。这句话在全片中出现过两次，这一次，Jack是一个虔诚的传道者，认为上帝会关注每一个生命。

8． pre-corpse club 这里corpse means dead body, Paul将这个病房形容为“预备停尸房”， 足见他对生命的绝望。

9． What do I have to do with them? 我和他们有什么关系？have something to do with 就是be concerned with 与什么有关，例如对话后来说到，Christ had nothing to do with this！上帝与此无关。

10． In a coma在昏迷中，He has been in a coma for 20 years.他昏迷了20年了。

11． I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy. Iｗill have compassion on whom I will have compassion.我宽恕我要宽恕的人，我可怜我要可怜的人。

12． And the fearful and unbelieving, and the abominable, the murderers, the warmongers，the sorcerers and idolaters, and all lairs, shall have their part in the lake which burn-neth with fire an brimstone. Revelation 21.8 Jack在这里大量的引用圣经中的语言，来抵触牧师的劝导。

13． I could carry out his will. 我能够按照他的意愿行事。carry out.完成, 执行. Will在这里是名词，表示“意愿”。

14． If someone blasphemes, they say rude or disrespectful things about God or religion, or they use God's name as a swear word. blasphemes亵渎

15． 神父认为上帝与这一次的车祸无关，而Jack认为如若神父所说，上帝对我们如此关注，那为什么他又和这次车祸无关，此时的Jack对于上帝，对于信仰，一瞬间丧失了坚持。

16． The weight of a stack of five nickels. The weight of a hummingbird. A chocolate bar. How much did 21 grams weigh? 21克，不过是一堆五分钱硬币的重量，或是一只蜂鸟，或是一小块巧克力，也是我们灵魂的重量，到底生命的重量是多少？Jack在思索中离开，这21克的逝去留给我们太多的思考。
